Besides the beautiful gem Canne Bianchi (about which you might have read our other blog), we have also visited another place during our stay and fashion shoot in the Puglian area. Masseria Borgo San Marco is located in the south of Bari, near Brindisi in a huge olive tree grove close to the sea yet also surrounded by the countryside. It is a charming and authentic Masseria facing the Adriatic Sea, with a white ancient stone wall all around the place, originally a location of defence for Malta’s Knights in the 15th century. The historical Amati family, the current owners, belong to one of these families.
Alessandro Amati decided to restore the Masseria in the early start of the millennium, recreating a piece of history and preserving the atmosphere of the past. This by creating an elegant, sustainable-minded and traditional country house where you can find beauty in pastel colours, narrating the love that the family has been developing for the place from generation to generation.
The Masseria consists of eighteen suites, minimalistic but stylishly decorated, respecting Apulian traditions. All of them are spacious, high, comfortable, bright and characterized by niches and arches. There is a fantastic lake-swimming pool which will make your mouth drop for a second, a beautiful Mediterranean garden, a citrus grove among ancient pillars, a relaxing terrace, coffee-reading room in the ancient oil-mill, a traditional restaurant and a little church with frescoes recently discovered. The images have been hidden for years, underneath a whitewash and plaster layer.
A perfect spot when you desire to spend time in a traditional, Italian residence. When the north-westerly wind blows, you can hear the sea waves. The place feels magical at night, when you will see the lights of torches all around the Borgo! It truly is a place where you can inhale the soul of the old Masseria and experience the ancient country traditions.
